Welcome to the Amazing Digital Circus! Are you ready to see something incredible?! Well too bad! You're gonna see it anyway! In today's show, we've got quite the performance!
~ Caine in the teaser for The Amazing Digital Circus right before throwing knives at Pomni and making her scream in pain.
I, do have to apologize for lying about the exit. I knew how much all of you have been wanting there to be one but, well, y'know? I was having so much trouble figuring out what to put on the other side and, then ended up never quite finishing', it... and, you know how I never like letting people see my unfinished work, especially if it leads you out into The Void... Anyway! Looks you defeated the Gloink Queen, so I guess the adventure's over! Your reward, is a delicious digital feast, cooked by our head Bubble Chef!
~ Caine apologizing to the others for hiding them the door while also making up a lie and then an announcement about a feast just after, all of which serves as a flimsy excuse to keeping his people trapped in The Digital Circus ever since the pilot.
I DO NOT use my adventures to torture my guests! Any torment I inflict is 100% accidental! Like any good war criminal!
~ Caine arguing with Zooble in the third episode.

Creative Artificial Intelligence Networking Entity, better known as Caine or C.A.I.N.E is the main antagonist of the Glitch Productions dark comedy/surreal web series The Amazing Digital Circus.

He is an AI tasked with keeping the human captives of the Digital Circus sane and well, as well as functioning as the Circus's ringmaster. However, his lack of general knowledge on humans as well as his over-the-top enthusiasm causes him to unintentionally hurt his fellow circus members.

He is voiced by Alex Rochon.

His "Evil" Ranking[]

Debated Validations[]

  • While he did delete Gummigoo, it was clearly out of necessity, with Caine being afraid of what could happen if he lost track of which characters are human and which are NPCs. Caine also re-uses NPCs, such as when Gummigoo, his brothers and the Gloinks reappear in Fast Food Masquerade, meaning that they're still alive in a way, albeit without their original memories.

His "Villainous" Deeds[]

  • He has the main cast go on his adventures regardless of whether they want to or not in an attempt to keep them sane, but doesn't particularly seem to care if this causes them to feel worse about their situation in the Digital Circus and never holds himself accountable for anything that goes wrong. Actually, he seems to be fine with going to extremes when setting up these adventures, meaning that despite not intending to traumatize the players even further, he ends up doing it by accident anyway because he doesn't understand that he is going to extremes in the first place, perceiving everything he does as completely normal for someone to do to a group of people trapped in a digital plane.
  • He irresponsibly left his exit doors lying around, which drove Kaufmo to insanity and caused him to abstract, and likely would have done the same to Pomni.
  • In one of the earlier promos, he tortured Pomni by forcing her into a knife-throwing act while strapping her to a wheel (which Pomni felt agony with), and carelessly said how much "learning" they had from this experience (leaving Pomni in pain).
  • He straight up deleted Gummigoo in front of Pomni ending up traumatizing her. This was made worse, due to the fact that Pomni and Gummigoo had formed a close bond with each other, along with the fact that the latter became self-aware after learning that he’s an NPC.
    • It was shown in “Fast Food Masquerade” that Gummigoo never had a single memory of Pomni after he was deleted.
  • He didn’t show any long-lasting concern towards any of the Abstracted victims, or when Pomni was traumatized from Gummigoo’s deletion.

Why Isn't He Actually Villainous?[]

  • He wasn't aware that his acts would have negative consequences at all and did acts out of ignorance instead. He also didn't know that the humans are suffering in the circus.
  • He had severe moral agency issues, as he's an AI who had problems understanding emotions. He even tried to make an exit for the humans after they wanted one and couldn't complete it due to not knowing that they actually wanted to escape. Even him deleting Gummigoo wasn’t out of malice, but because he didn’t want to confuse humans and NPCs, saying that it would have caused serious problems. He even admitted that the adventures traumatizing the guests like Pomni are all accidental.
  • Due to the show being black comedy, he's not taken seriously at all and was constantly played for laughs.
  • He was On & Off as he saved all of the captives from Kaufmo, although this was out of neccessity as Kaufmo was causing substantial damage to the Circus.
  • Despite somewhat neglecting them he clearly cared for his captives as he was concerned about them being eaten.
  • He had a friendship with Bubble despite their bickering, as the two were shown to have lunch together.
  • He had standards as he was terribly shocked by Bubble’s saying of inappropriate words stating he couldn’t say that, along with the fact he didn’t allow swearing in the Digital Circus in general.

Trivia[]

  • Caine's Conflicting Evil status might change in the future if the upcoming episodes has him doing something actually villainous.
